Spring 2024 TBR

Spring reading season begins for me on March 1st!

If you’re curious what I mean by reading seasons, check out this post, Is Seasonal Reading a Thing?

For years I have dabbled in creating seasonal TBRs. I love finding simple ways of embracing the current season! Doing this within my reading life just adds another layer of flavor and fun to the seasonal experience.

Last year I followed through on my goal of making a TBR for each season.

I loved the entire process! From the planning and selecting to the actual reading to reflecting on what worked for me, what didn’t, and what I can tweak for future reading lists to better align with my current reading tastes.

It’s a way of intentionally experimenting with my reading life that I find both fun and informative.

The Spring Reading Season

Spring tends to be my shortest reading season since I like to begin my summer reading in May.

It is also the TBR I’ve had the least success with in the past.

Last year I only read 4 of the 10 books on my TBR list before abandoning it to binge read Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series instead.

Spring can be a season of recharging, cleansing, and renewal. Those themes can be incorporated into the reading life in so many different ways.

Last year I approached my spring TBR with a spring cleaning mindset.

I prioritized books that had been on my kindle for a long time. I also looked to climate fiction, genres or formats I didn’t read often, and wanted to check off a few of the 12 authors I wanted to read again in 2023.

This proved to be the wrong approach. It felt like assigned reading.

Perhaps there was a reason those books had been on my TBR unread for so long. That reading list also ignored my love of romance, only including one romance book, and my blossoming interest in reading series.

I took lessons from that “failed” TBR with me into the rest of 2023’s seasonal reading lists. I’m hoping my approach to spring reading this year will be more successful.

What I’m Looking for in my Spring Reading this Year

This spring I’m leaning into series! Romance series at that.

There were so many possibilities! The part I had the most difficulty with was actually deciding which series I wanted to commit to if I hadn’t tried the author yet.

Fingers crossed these work out but I can always switch a series out if it’s really not working for me. It’s ok to pivot!

With this TBR, I wanted to keep in mind my 2024 reading goals around Kindle Unlimited and reading more diversely. I also considered how much I can actually read with my eyes over the short two month season and factored in my access to audiobooks to increase my chance of success with this reading list.

I settled on 4 categories for my spring TBR!

The hope is each of these will lead to a deep dive into the series for the season. Hence why there’s only 4 options instead of my usual 10+ books.

This year’s spring reading categories are:

  • a series I’d love to continue
  • a series by a diverse author I hope to dive into
  • on audio a series from an author I love
  • on audio a series by a diverse author to try

My 2024 Spring TBR:

Spring 2024 TBR - Spring Reading

*available on Kindle Unlimited as of this writing

A Series I’d Love to Continue

  • Claimed by the Horde King by Zoey Draven*

This is book two in Zoey Draven’s Horde Kings of Dakkar series. It’s an alien romance series and complete at six books. I gave the first book, Captive of the Horde King, 6 stars last fall and it made my best books of 2023!

A Series By A Diverse Author I Hope to Dive Into

  • The Friend Contract by Dria Andersen*

Dria Andersen is a Black author who writes paranormal romance. This is book one in her Hamilton Brothers series featuring shapeshifters. I recently shared the second book, The Alpha’s Affair, in the January Edition of What’s in my Kindle Unlimited Library.

I believe there are only two books in this series but Andersen has multiple interwoven series set in the same paranormal world. So if I love it there are many possible continuation reads!

🎧 A Series From An Author I Love on Audio

  • Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan*

Kennedy Ryan, also a Black author, is one of my favorite romance writers! I adored her series All the King’s Men especially the first two books – The Kingmaker and The Rebel King. They must be read together and both were 5 stars!

After recently reading an ARC of This Could Be Us, the sequel to Before I Let Go (4.5 stars), I immediately went to her backlist to see what I still have to read. Her Hoops series came up. I’m planning to listen to this three book series featuring sports romance on Hoopla but the ebooks are also available on KU.

🎧 A Series by A Diverse Author to Try on Audio

  • Knot My Type by Evie Mitchell

Evie Mitchell is an author living with disability. This is book one in her All Access series and features a main character who uses a wheelchair. So far there are just two books in this contemporary romance series. I’m not sure if it’s complete or an ongoing series. I’m planning to listen to the audiobooks on Hoopla.

How are you approaching your spring reading this year? What elements do you think make a story a spring read?
