Reading Challenges to Keep in Mind for 2023

I love hearing about new reading challenges!

Of course, I always want to do them all and I have to pace myself so I don’t get overwhelmed. Or suck all the fun and spontaneity out of my reading life.

It does seem like every book influencer has some kind of reading challenge. There are ones for reading more diversely. For challenging yourself. For tackling your TBR. To explore new genres. And even some just for fun by color.

I enjoy looking through all sorts of challenges to get ideas and inspiration for my own reading life.

In 2022, my only reading challenge was setting a total books read through Goodreads.

For 2023 I’m still debating which ones I will take on and what parameters I’ll try to put on my reading life.

One goal I have is to keep creating my seasonal TBRs that I can then mood read from. I’ve been having so much fun with this! My winter one will carry over into January and February of next year.

With December right around the corner, there’s no better time to start planning the reading challenges you’d like to take on!

Keep this collection of reading challenges in mind for 2023:

Challenges from Past Favorite Book Sources

  • Modern Mrs Darcy – Her 2022 reading challenge was a create your own challenge. I’m curious what she will come out with for 2023!
  • Currently Reading – This book podcast put out a 2022 reading challenge but they’ve slowed down discussing that in favor of their monthly indie press list for patrons (also a great source for choosing a monthly read or three). I’m not sure if they’ll come out with a new one for 2023.

Reading Challenges to Challenge Yourself

  • Book Riot Read Harder Challenge – They haven’t released their 2023 one yet but they have eight years worth of past ones to choose from too.
  • Diversity Reading Challenge – This 2022 challenge focused on reading more diversely whether that’s authors or books with diverse characters.
  • Popsugar Reading Challenge – The 2023 one hasn’t been announced yet but past ones promise to expand, diversify, or bring more fun to your reading life.

  1. I like the idea of challenges, and I get super excited about them. And then I start feeling like I’m being told what to do and so I rebel and end up not reading at all. So dumb! I can’t wait to see which ones you choose to participate in!
