KU Reads August

What’s in My Kindle Unlimited Library: August Edition

My love affair with KU reads started with my May reading month this year. And I don’t see it fizzling out any time soon.

I have a two year subscription and to keep myself honest about using it, I’m sharing what’s in my Kindle Unlimited Library every other month.

I’ll either read the books or return them, ensuring I stay fresh with my selections and keep trying new authors.

I’m always looking for new KU recs to try, especially those with the read and listen for free feature. So I hope this helps you find more authors and series to try on KU too!

If you have any must read books from the catalog, let me know in the comments.

Below I touch on what books I read from the previous June edition, which I DNF’d, and what other KU reads I snuck in.

My goal is to average at least 3 kindle unlimited books a month. My KU reading is off to a great start!

What I Read from the June Edition:

Indigo Ridge by Devney Perry

This was June’s selection for A Dose of Romance Book Club. You can check out my review here.

Ivan by Sophie Lark

One I read and enjoyed. My 4-star review can be found here.

I’m not sure mafia romance is for me but I want to try Sophie Lark’s Brutal Birthrights series and Jagger Cole before I say I’m out on that subgenre.

Having the Barbarian’s Baby by Ruby Dixon

I finished up all the short stories and novellas in this series and I’m on the final book!

Lauren’s Barbarian by Ruby Dixon

I read this one plus the next 9 books in the Icehome series.

While this one wasn’t my favorite, I’ve had a few 5-star reads from this series which I’ve shared in my wrap ups. I’m loving it!

One Hot Italian Summer by Karina Halle

I really enjoyed this one!

It was a great summer read that touches on writing, art, and the creative muse. Plus there are amazing steamy scenes all over Italy. Check out my review here.

What I Returned:

Right Author, Want a Different Book

  • Close Quarters by Kandi Steiner
  • Blame it on the Tequila by Fiona Cole

Waiting for the Audio

  • The Right Move by Liz Tomforde
  • A Kiss for a Kiss by Helena Hunting

Better in Fall

  • A Lady of Rooksgrave Manor by Kathryn Moon
  • The Gargoyle’s Captive by Katee Robert
  • Watt and Bothered by Fiona Davenport

No Longer Feeling

  • Vacation Wars by Meghan Quinn – 14 hrs on audio is hard for me to commit to and I just read a writer on vacation book.
  • Breakaway by Grace Reilly – not in a hockey mood right now and I’m not sure new adult is my jam.

DNFs

  • Teach Me by L.L. Ash – the main character was not for me and I wasn’t enjoying the writing.
  • Toxic Desire by Robin Lovett – I was still trying to understand what happened on the spaceship let alone the world building and the characters were already going at it.

A Quick List of Other KU Reads Since June:

What’s in My Kindle Unlimited Library this August:

Here are 16 new books I’m starting August with in my Kindle Unlimited Library and 4 I’m still hoping to read!

What's in my Kindle Unlimited Library? August Edition 1 - KU reads
What's in my Kindle Unlimited Library? August Edition 2 - KU reads

Deviant Hearts by Jagger Cole

As I said above, I wanted to give mafia romance another go before deciding it isn’t for me. It was either this or Sophie Lark’s Brutal Birthright series.

This book 1 in Jagger Cole’s Dark Hearts series. I’ve wanted to pick it up since seeing Jenn at The Book Refuge gush over it! I’m also curious to read a male romance author.

The Wolf and the Wildflower by Stacy Reid

Stacy Reid is a new author for me. I’ve seen this book discussed and enjoyed by a few romance booktubers.

I grabbed this one for The Romance Readathon. It qualifies for all the bonus points. The audio is also available on hoopla through my library.

Jock Blocked by Pippa Grant

My friend Corinne recommended this one to me when we were discussing romance tropes and I said I had a thing for celebrity/normal person. It’s one of her favorites for that category.

Always Mine by Laura Pavlov

I keep seeing Jessica at PeaceLoveBooksXO gush over Laura Pavlov.

Her small town romance series that follow a group of siblings have been on my radar for awhile. Those are two of my favorite things. I hope to read her asap to see if this train is for me! It appears most of her books are available as KU reads.

Voyeur by Fiona Cole

Ashley from A Seed for the Soul recommended this book to me when we were discussing KU authors and she found out I hadn’t read Fiona Cole yet.

It sounds like a spicy good time. Tropes include: forbidden romance, teacher-student romance, age gap, and a sex club.

Keep Her Safe by Q. B. Tyler

There’s so much love for this new release is everywhere right now.

Q.B. Tyler is a new to me author who I keep hearing amazing things about. This one is a bodyguard romance – yes please!

A Love Letter to Whiskey by Kandi Steiner

I’ve been wanting to try reading Kandi Steiner. I’m hopeful this a good place to start. Many of her other book are sports romances and those just aren’t calling to me right now.

Praise by Sarah Cate

This is the first book in her Salacious Players Club, another series that is everywhere at the moment. I want to see what the hype is about.

Between Hello and Goodbye by Emma Scott

This book has been on my radar after seeing Michae at Oh Hey It’s Michae share her glowing review of it.  If I can get to it, it sounds like a fantastic summer read to fit in before the end of the season.

Done and Dusted by Lyla Sage

This is another one I’ve been seeing so much love for! It’s described as a quick, sweet, and fun read. I want to get to it while I’m still in my cowboy romance era.

Feral Sins by Suzanne Wright

This is book 1 in The Phoenix Pack series. I heard about it on a recommendation video from Jenn at The Book Refuge.

It might wait until closer to fall but I’d love to get into more paranormal romance series with shifters. I also love that the audio is available through KU. It’s a read and listen for free!

Muscles & Monsters by Ashley Bennett

Bookstagram put this one on my radar. Specifically @nikkisfictionaddiction for her glowing review of the third book in the series, Mantras & Minotaurs.

This first one is about a werewolf. It’s another that might wait until closer to fall for me to pick up. I’m looking forward to all the paranormal and monster romance in the upcoming season!

Garnet Flats by Devney Perry

This is the third book in Devney Perry’s The Edens series. They’re small town romances that each follow a different Eden sibling. Some of them have an element of romantic suspense.

I love the setting of Quincy, Montana and the large family dynamics. There was a hint of this couple at the end of book 2 so I’m excited to continue the series.

Next in Series by Ruby Dixon

  • Raven’s Return (Icehome)
  • Barbarian’s Bride (Ice Planet Barbarians)
  • Prison Planet Barbarian (risdaverse – going back to the start)

Ignite by Melanie Harlow

Update: This is the August book pick for A Dose of Romance Book Club so it will finally to read! I’m so excited!

I checked this one out thanks to Jenn at The Book Refuge. I have been wanting to read Melanie Harlow.  Hopefully this is a good place to begin. All I know it’s the first in a spin off series of hers and features a single dad and a small town.

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Demon by Kimberly Lemming

Update: Still holding onto this one and for a sneak peek it will probably be September’s romance book club pick.

I’ve had this book checked out for months after hearing great things. I didn’t want to return it because it was unavailable on KU for quite awhile after the author was picked up by a traditional publisher and I didn’t want to lose access to it.

I love that it’s less than 200 pages! Very different from the current trend that seems to be happening with super long romances.

Off to the Races by Elsie Silver

Update: Keeping this one for when I need another Elsie Silver fix from my KU reads. I also just got the audio from Hoopla through my library.

This is the first book in Elsie Silver’s Gold Rush Ranch series. After falling in love with her Chestnut Springs series, I can’t wait to start this one!

Captive of the Horde King by Zoey Draven

Update: I definitely still want to try this series but this is another one that wait until closer to Fall for me to pick up.

Another alien romance series that was recommended by Ava’s Romance Books. It’s described as a barbarian planet with Dothraki type aliens. Sign me up! I’ll just be picturing Jason Momoa as the hero ?
