Spring is the perfect time to try making your own nontoxic household cleaners! Not only do DIY cleaning products help eliminate toxins and chemicals in your home, they also save you money and cut down on packaging waste.
I’ve been making my own homemade cleaning supplies for a few years now. It’s amazing how few ingredients you really need for homemade cleaners. Castile soap, white vinegar, and baking soda are common supplies to have on hand. All go a long way in naturally cleaning your home.
For while I was cleaning our sinks by sprinkling baking soda in them and then spraying it with my all purpose cleaner that contained vinegar. It would foam up a little bit and the baking soda had enough grit to help with scrubbing any grime off the sink.
This simple soft scrub works even better and is easier to use since it can be made ahead and stored for a long time. While there’s no vinegar, the castile soap gives an extra cleaning boost and the paste-like consistency of the scrub needs no foaming.
The essential oils aren’t necessary but also aid in disinfecting and give a pleasant scent to the process. Fresh and clean. I love using lemon and tea tree for my homemade cleaning recipes but you could use any oil you like. Citrus oils are especially refreshing.
