Curious how this TBR went? Check out my Summer Wrap Up.
Summer reading has begun!
This is one of the bigger book seasons.
It’s also the longest reading season. Especially here in Central Texas where summer feels like it’s 8 months long!
I like to pick up summer reads from May until August. Last year even bled into September when some late library holds came in.
Currently I’m already deep into summer recipe gathering while we eagerly await the opening of the pool and plan for early morning walks as the temperatures and humidity climb.
This year I’m hoping an early start on summer reading will allow for me to kick off September with my fall reading. I’m sure by then I’ll be over the heat and the summer vibes.
What I’m Looking for in my Summer Reads
If you’re curious about what I mean by seasonal reading, check out this post, Is Seasonal Reading a Thing?
For me summer reading can be described as anything light, fun, breezy, propulsive, or labeled brain candy!
In the past, summer genres and categories have consisted of:
- beach read
- women’s fiction
- contemporary romance
- travel books
- shorter books
- young adult series
Summer reading is definitely the most covered season for reading. These days it seems like everyone has a summer reading guide.
Some of my past favorites to check out are:
While these influencers haven’t released their 2023 reading guides yet, their backlist guides are sure to include plenty of already published summer titles.
Sometimes backlist is an even better option because the books are readily available for purchase or to borrow through the library!
This Summer
This year I hope I remain in the mood for romance since that’s the majority of my list!
I’m leaning hard into new releases, trying out the first book in some popular and lengthy romance series, picking up a few Kindle Unlimited authors I’ve been curious about, and of course some beach reads.
I’m sprinkling in a few thriller titles too for when I need a palette cleanser.
Here’s what I came up with.
