If you know me, you know fall is my favorite season! As soon as August hits and everyone is going back to school, I start planning my fall TBR and craving all things pumpkin spice!
This year proved no different.
Although the sudden need for autumn caught me a little off guard. One moment I was fully immersed in summer still enjoying community pool days and the next I was all about autumn – complete with a folder of new pumpkin recipes to try!
I blame the sudden shift on the pool closing for the season along with a week of gray skies and thunderstorms. I do wonder how long it will take my body to adjust to the fact that rain does not indicate cold in our new area.
Usually the thing I can’t wait for with fall is those temperatures to dip enough to enjoy curling up under a blanket in the morning with my book and actually wanting a hot cup of coffee again.
This year with a soon-to-be 1-year-old who wakes up at 5 am most mornings (he does not get that from me!), my fall reading experience may have a slightly different rhythm.
My Autumn Dream
At the moment I’m most looking forward to those cooler mornings so that Mr. O and I can venture out for a walk.
I’m really excited to see how the trees change here with the season and I hope to find splashes of fall color in our new neighborhood.
I envision a relaxing stroll where my little man takes in the views and I get to have a headphone in enjoying a great audiobook along with some exercise.
Maybe we stop at our local coffee shop for a jolt of caffeine for me or pop into the library to visit the books.
While Mr. O is very chill most of the time, I’ll let you know how that fantasy works out!
Last Fall
Last year in my fall reading post, I dove into all the things that I feel make a great fall read. I also shared many of the bookish sources I use to inspire my seasonal TBRs.
There were 16 books on that reading list and I did a great job making my way through most of them, especially being in the throes of life with a newborn.
This year I’ve put together my most ambitious fall TBR yet. It could even be referred to as overly ambitious with 34 books!
I think my new philosophy is there can never be enough autumn reads. Be sure to let me know in the comments what books are on your fall reading list!

Dang girl, that’s definitely ambitious! I’m hoping to read The Ex Hex, Other Birds, and How to Find Love in a Bookshop (I heard it has fall vibes). I have the Bodyguard on my shelf, so let me know when you pick that one up. And I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Dead Romantics. Cheers to pumpkin everything and long fall walks!!
Oh, I’ll have to check that one out! I just realized today that you had already read The Dead Romantics – I hope I like it more! Eek, it definitely seems to be a miss for many of the reviewers I follow. My hold for The Bodyguard is 4 weeks out at the moment. Yay! I’ll keep you posted on its arrival!
