My reading year is really going fantastic!
I’ve read more books than ever before in the first half of the year with a lot of high star ratings too.
Earlier this week, I shared a post doing a mid year check in on my reading life and how my goals are progressing. If you’re into stats and reading challenges, check that out!
Today I’m doing a fun bookish tag – the mid year book freak out tag.
This is a trend I’ve seen in the past on BookTube and recently on bookstagram as well. It’s one I’ve wanted to do for years!
Here’s my blog version of the tag.
Mid Year Book Freak Out Tag
I got the prompts for this tag from Alexandra Roselyn’s BookTube video. There are a ton of different ones circulating that are so fun to check out!
1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far This Year
Reckless by Elsie Silver!!!
You can read my full gushing review here in my mid June recap, but I loved everything about my reading experience with this book. I had high expectations after falling in love with the series this year and this new release more than met them!
Honorable Mentions: Wicked Deeds on a Winter’s Night by Kresley Cole and Final Gifts by Maggie Callanan and Patricia Kelley
2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far This Year

- Heartless by Elsie Silver
- Home Game by Odette Stone
- Veronica’s Dragon by Ruby Dixon
- The Wallflower Wager by Tessa Dare
3. Favorite Reread of the Year
The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker
I loved it just as much as the first time reading. Maybe even more! It’s such an amazing full circle story. It will make you laugh, make you cry, make you swoon, and probably make you fall in love with Alaska! It does leave a wicked bookish hangover every time though.

13. Most Beautiful Book You Have Acquired This Year
I have a unique take on this since I don’t acquire many physical books. I did purchase a few parenting ones this year to have on hand for reference.
Good Inside by Dr. Becky Kennedy is the most beautiful book for the message inside!
14. What Books Do You Need to Read Before the End of the Year
I have several books still to read to meet my reading goals from my 2023 bucket list. Most pressing are:

There are also the releases I’m looking forward to in the second half of the year.
I’m not quite sure what vibes I’ll be wanting this fall but that is my favorite and usually largest seasonal TBR of the year!
15. Favorite Video or Post that You’ve Done So Far This Year
I was really happy with my book choices for my Summer TBR this year!
I’m also excited for my new venture into Kindle Unlimited content.
