Mid October Book Review

Welcome to the mid October Book Review. I read 3 books in the beginning of October. I think this may just be my new norm while we are traveling. It hasn’t been as easy to listen to audiobooks as I’d hoped. Usually I’m the navigator in the passenger seat and we’ve been driving short distances trying to pay attention to the area to evaluate if we’d want to move here. Or maybe I just need to come up with a better routine. My podcast listening is lacking lately too. At least I’m ahead already for my goal to read 100 books this year – 91 books read!

Mid October Book Review 1

A Chesapeake Shores Christmas by Sherryl Woods

I previously reviewed Chesapeake Shores #1 and #2 as well as book #3 last month.

This is the fourth book in the Chesapeake Shores series. A Chesapeake Shores Christmas follows Mick and Megan O’Brien as he tries to convince her to remarry him. Megan wants the support of all their children before she’ll agree to a New Year’s Eve ceremony. Connor proves to be a problem and things he’s been hiding in his personal life are set up in this book for his story to follow in the next one.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars. It is about 100 pages shorter than the others in the series so far. I think the editing only strengthens the story. I enjoyed catching up with the O’Brien siblings since they all have a bigger role in this book with the telling of their parents’ story. Big families, the holidays, and a rekindled love story combine to make a wonderful read.

Mid October Book Review 2

Brownies and Broomsticks by Bailey Cates

I recently acquired this read from a friend’s donation pile. I almost didn’t pick it up but vaguely recalled her enjoying it and I love cozy paranormal mysteries even more. Throw in a bakery, a dog familiar, and a southern city (Savannah in this case) and I’m sold. I read the majority of this book on one of our down days wishing for cooler weather and less humidity here. Fall (or more like Winter) arrived a few days later.

This story follows Katie Lightfoot as she settles into her new home, opens up a new family owned bakery, and discovers her witchy heritage. After a murder occurs right outside their business and her uncle is the sole suspect, Katie tries to solve the mystery herself with the help of her aunt’s coven “book club”. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars and am hunting for other books in the series.

Mid October Book Review 3

Driftwood Cottage by Sherryl Woods

The fifth book in the Chesapeake Shores series follows Connor O’Brien and his former girlfriend Heather Donovan as they grapple with their recent separation and coparent their young son. Connor is a divorce attorney and doesn’t believe in marriage. Heather left Connor in the last book wanting more for her future and life with her son. She and Connor still love each other though but are at an impasse on the issue of marriage. When she settles in his hometown of Chesapeake Shores close to his family, they have to navigate their feelings and dreams even more. I really enjoyed Heather’s character and her relationship with Megan. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars as well.
