Homemade Pumpkin Spice Creamer

Once fall arrives, I start craving pumpkin everything! Pumpkin Spice with coffee is one of my favorite fall treats. While I love a pumpkin spice latte, pumpkin spice creamer makes this fall flavor easy to enjoy at home.

Over the summer, I experimented with making my own coffee creamer. I wanted to give us a variety of flavors to mix things up. I found an awesome basic coffee creamer recipe over on the blog, A Sweet Pea Chef. It only requires 5 ingredients, is naturally sweetened, and simple to make from scratch.

With a good base creamer it’s fun and easy to build on that by adding other flavors. In the past months, I’ve made vanilla, peppermint mocha, cinnamon, and raspberry mocha options. This week, I started experimenting with a pumpkin spice addition.

This homemade pumpkin spice creamer only adds two ingredients, keeping it natural and simple to make. It smells heavenly ringing in the fall season and tastes like pumpkin pie!

What You Will Need:

  • 2 cups of milk (your choice of type)
  • 1 cup of raisins
  • another cup of milk (your choice of type)
  • 1 tsp arrowroot starch/flour
  • 2.5 tsp pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin puree

The first step is to combine 2 cups of your milk of choice with 1 cup of raisins in a sealable container. Leave this overnight in the fridge or for at least 5 hours to let the raisins naturally sweeten the milk.

Then pour the mixture through a strainer into a pan. The soaked raisins can be stored in the fridge to eat later if you don’t want to waste them. I add mine to oatmeal or yogurt.

Add the rest of the milk, arrowroot powder, maple syrup, and vanilla to the sweetened milk. To make the basic creamer you could just add these.

For this flavor, add the pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie spice as well.

Place over medium-low heat and cook for 6 to 8 minutes until the mixture begins to thicken. Stir to make sure the milk doesn’t burn and the pumpkin puree mixes in.

Let the mixture cool. Pour into an airtight container and store in the fridge.

Shake to mix before adding to your coffee.

Enjoy within 5 days. Ours never lasts that long though!

Notes:

While the pumpkin puree mixes in surprisingly well in this recipe, it does make for a different texture. Sometimes a little bit of it settles at the bottom of the cup of coffee. It’s normal and the result of using real pumpkin.

If you aren’t worried about avoiding sugar and prefer a sweeter creamer, a few tbsps of brown sugar may be added.

My husband can’t get past the dark color of the coffee still after adding the pumpkin spice creamer. He often pours both the pumpkin spice combined with actual half and half in his coffee. If you’re particular about the tint of your coffee, I’d try replacing the additional cup of milk with half and half.
