Homemade Glass Cleaner

,

Spring is the perfect time to try making your own nontoxic household cleaners! Not only do DIY cleaning products help cut down on toxins and chemicals in your home, they also save you money and cut back on waste.

I’ve been making my own homemade cleaning supplies for a few years now. It’s amazing how few ingredients you really need for cleaning. Castile soap, white vinegar, and baking soda all go a long way in naturally cleaning your home.

It’s only recently that I’ve found a glass cleaner recipe that works well for me. The one I’m sharing today is made from just 4 ingredients you likely have in your home already. The best part is it wipes away streak free! The most important aspect of a glass cleaner for me.

This recipe could easily be doubled or even quadrupled to fit whatever size spray bottle you prefer. A 4 oz mixture is perfect for us because we don’t go through it that fast in our tiny home.

What You Will Need:

  • 4 oz amber glass spray bottle
  • 1 1/2 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp rubbing alcohol
  • 8 drops citrus essential oil
  • 3 oz distilled water

How to Make Glass Cleaner:

Using a glass bottle is important because essential oils can degrade plastic over time. An amber or cobalt bottle helps protect the cleaner from UV light.

Start by adding the vinegar and rubbing alcohol to the bottle.

Next add the drops of essential oil. Any citrus oil will add a cleaning boost and fresh scent to enjoy.

I have a synergy blend called Citrus Burst from Plant Therapy that works great. It’s a mixture of grapefruit, lemon, lime, mandarin, and sweet orange.

Top off the bottle with distilled water.

Screw on the spray topper and shake to combine.

Label your bottle.

Shake before each use. Spray on glass, windows, or mirrors and wipe away with a paper towel until the surface dries streak free.
