The mid November Book Review is here. I read 3 books so far this month. I knew I would be taking it easy on the reading this month while writing for Nanowrimo. At least I’m only one book away from my goals of reading 100 books this year!
Toil and Trouble: 15 Tales of Women & Witchcraft edited by Tess Sharpe
I loved this young adult anthology about witches. I was a little surprised by that. Whenever I read short stories I always enjoy them so much I should read more. I need to work them into my usual rotation of genres. Most of the stories in this anthology were amazing. There were only a couple that were a little out there for me. I wish a few of them like The Gherin Girls by Emery Lord and Beware of Girls with Crooked Mouths by Jessica Spotswood were full novels! It was a great read for the fall. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars.
An O’Brien Family Christmas by Sherryl Woods

This is the 8th book in Sherryl Woods’ Chesapeake Shores series. I couldn’t wait until Christmas time to start it but it would make a perfect read for over the holidays. This book picks up right where the last left off with the fall out of Layla Riley and Matthew O’Brien’s steamy affair. Layla wants to put an end to their relationship right as Matthew is convinced they should get married. Throw in an O’Brien family trip to Dublin for Christmas and grandma Nell rekindling an old flame and you have all kinds of entertainment. I gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
You Don’t Look Your Age: And Other Fairy Tales by Sheila Nevins
I listened to this book as an audiobook mostly because it was available through my library and I liked the huge array of female stars voicing the different stories. It didn’t have very good reviews though and I can see why now. The only thing I liked was the recognizable narrators and perhaps a couple of the honest stories dealing with loss. I guess I thought it was a feminist book with true stories from a documentary producer who was successful early on as a female in a male dominated industry. Most of the time I was confused whether these were actually Nevin’s personal stories. I found the messages that came across in some of them rather horrendous. Maybe I missed the humor.
