I surpassed my 2018 reading goal of reading 100 books in the year by 9 books! I’m also going to round up that 0.3% and say I hit my goal of reading 1 book I already owned for every 4 books I read. I didn’t stop buying books however so those were a little skewed by the new series I was collecting. I was very happy to discover two new series last year. I’m nearly finished with Sherryl Woods’ Chesapeake Shores and I’m in the middle of The Magical Bakery Mysteries by Bailey Cates.
My nonfiction and fiction reading stayed balanced without me really monitoring it for the last half of the year. That impressed me. I’m always reading about how few people read female authors so its great to see most of my reading is female authors. That’s probably not surprising since I’m a woman. I feel as though I should try to read more male authors for balance. Audiobooks also accounted for 37.6% of my total reading. I would like to see my audiobook intake at 30% or less of my total reading in the future.
Due to updating my computer this year, I can’t access Excel for some reason anymore so I’ll be going old school with a reading notebook. I made up a chart to keep track of books I’ve read and the stats that I find helpful to track. I’m also hoping to take more notes when I’ve completed a book to help with reviews.
2019 Reading Goals
- read 100 books or more again
- limit book purchases to 4 new books this year
- bring the already own source of my reading up to 1 in 3
- limit audiobooks to just 30% of overall reading
- maintain the fiction and nonfiction balance
- work on monthly TBRs to help me pick what to read next
- keep a notebook for spreadsheet tracking of my reading and notes for reviews
- take on the 2019 Modern Mrs Darcy reading challenge since I don’t have a book club at the moment
